Famous Foreign Professors 8 November - 6 December 2015

For the Xiaoxiang Exhibition of International Printmaking (Mei Lun Gallery, Changsha), sponsorship from the Famous Foreign Professors Fund (Hunan Department of Education) enabled a series of workshops to be run at Changhsa Normal University. During November and December, artists Dionne Haroutunian (Seattle), Luz Marina Ruiz (San Francisco), Paul Croft (Aberystwyth) and Wuon Gean Ho (London) collaborated with second year students from the Department of Fine Art to develop a programme of 4-week workshops in relief printing, monoprint installation, stone lithography, book arts and printmaking for animation.

For most students this was their first opportunity to experience stone lithography and the group of 24 worked in pairs to draw up two stones each using crayon and tusche. For their first print, students drew each other using only crayon; for the second stone they employed crayon and tusche. Working together in pairs encouraged collaboration and they learnt quickly, skills of drawing, etching and printing. An exhibition of their work was shown at the University Gallery at the end of the four week workshop.
